Improving your Mental Health with Chetna Bhatt

Chetna Bhatt is a certified executive coach, part-time in-house employment lawyer and speaker. As founder of Being Lawyers, she helps lawyers and other professionals uncover their innate wellbeing so that they can fulfil their potential without the risk of burnout.

Setting the scene

Chetna once experienced overthinking and overanalyzing, wanting to people-please and continuous worrying, leading to chronic fatigue. However, she was able to overcome this through the discovery of innate mental health.

Principles of innate mental health and the hidden variable

We all have innate mental health and resilience. A simple feeling “in the zone” is enough.

How do we get into this zone? Two ways:

  • Engage in activities we enjoy, such as going on hiking adventures.
  • Getting alone to let our minds self-correct and achieve true clarity. A clear mind gives us access to our inner GPS to help us navigate external challenges, producing resilience and resourcefulness.

Our thoughts and biochemistry are connected. Cultivate positive thoughts to give your nervous system a chance to relax and rejuvenate.

Thoughts and feelings

Thoughts and feelings are two sides of the same coin. While we may not be able to control what thoughts come in, we can control how we engage with them. Our thoughts are also influenced by the hidden variable.

Did you know? We have up to 80,000 thoughts a day, and they are transient in nature.

The hidden variable: state of mind

Our default state is to be at the top. The spectrum ranges from low-quality to high-quality states.

  • In a low state of mind, we lack perspective and tend to overanalyze and search for negative things that don’t exist.
  • In a high state of mind, we feel at ease, are more positive and therefore have the perspective to realize reality and not get lost in our own negative self-dialogue.

Start letting go of issues to elevate naturally.
